About the boat...
The boat 'Brightwater' is a RIB, standing for Rigid (hulled) Inflatable Boat made by Delta who are the chosen manufacturer by the Marine Police, Border Control Customer amongst many other marine operators, so the boat's pedigree is second to none for safety, strength and speed.

More about the boat...
"Brightwater" is propelled by a Volvo Penta D6 Diesel, producing 310 bhp and a DPH duoprop drive. She has an auxiliary engine, a Mercury which is our back-up. The top speed of Brightwater is 40 knots, unladen, and she was designed to be stable and safe in rough seas. The Volvo is a common-rail Diesel, and is highly efficient and reliable as you can expect from Volvo.
The navigation system is a Raymarine plotter with fish finder and underwater sonar mapping, backed up with charts, compass and GPS. There is also a VHF radio with DSC, sonar, fish-finder and hand-held VHF for backup.
There are 12 seats, in addition to the skipper and navigator's seats.
The Brightwater carries 320 litres of Diesel fuel, enough to get us from Eyemouth to Norway. Diesel is a much safer fuel to carry than petrol.
